Sesto Pinot Grigio Veneto and Rosso Veneto, new Italian wines from Geno Auriemma.

UConn Huskies Women’s Head Coach Geno Auriemma launched two new wines from his eponymous line of Italian imports: Sesto Pinot Grigio Veneto and Rosso Veneto. Vegan-friendly, the wines are carefully selected by Auriemma, whose first wines launched in 2013. Sesto Pinot Grigio offers notes of lemon, lime, almonds and flavors of orchard fruits such as pears and white nectarine for a well-balanced and versatile white wine with subtle minerality. Sesto Rosso offers notes of plums, red currants and blackberries with a well-structured mouthfeel, velvety, elegant and layered with gentle tannins. Sesto means “sixth” in Italian, as in the “sixth man” in basketball. The sixth man plays a crucial role on a basketball team and is valued for their versatility, a fitting name for his new wines. Auriemma has been an award-winning coach for his entire 40-year career at UConn, beginning in 1985, and is notable for 11 national championships, an NCAA-record 24 Final Four appearances and being named the all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division I basketball. He has also been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame recognizing his legendary career.
