Beech was conceived by a group of Jamestown locals who wanted to give their community a restaurant that feels like home. Offering inspired creations across five dining areas, from a lively bar scene to intimate, twinkly light dining, the venue is built around a 150 year old Beech tree — a symbol of protection and nourishment with its shady canopy and edible nuts. Beech creates a haven for travelers and locals alike. The award-winning team serves creative coastal cuisine and plenty of innovative cocktails, alongside a curated range of beer and wine offerings. Owned by Kevin Gaudreau, Beech was named the Restaurant of the Year in 2024 by the Rhode Island Hospitality Association. Bartender Natalia Miro was honored by the association for her efforts in 2025 and shares a recipe, the Black Walnut Old Fashioned, where tradition meets innovation.

Cocktail: Black Walnut Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Bullet Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
  • .5 oz. Luxardo cherry juice
  • An orange slice
  • 2 dashes Angostura Black Walnut bitters
  • Garnish: Orange peel and a cherry

The Black Walnut Old Fashioned.

Method: In a shaker tin, add Luxardo cherry juice, an orange slice and 2 dashes of Angostura Black Walnut bitters. Muddle. Add whiskey and stir for about 20-30 seconds to chill and dilute. Fill the glass with large ice cube. Strain cocktail. Express a strip of orange peel over the drink and drop it in or garnish with a cherry.
