Sicily Coal Fired Pizza
412 Main Street
Middletown, CT

Sicily Coal Fired Pizza, owned by Tony and Maria Prifitera, first opened in the summer of 2021 on Middletown’s Main Street, not far from the scenic Connecticut River. Offering thin and crispy New Haven-style pizza across an expansive menu of Italian delights with an even more expansive selection of beer, wine and spirits, its indoor and outdoor seating provide a perfect setting to stop in and enjoy new tastes. Bar Manager Misia Daniels said, “I love my craft. I’m very grateful here at Sicily. Anthony lets me experiment and craft all the cocktails for each new season. You can do so much with a few ingredients and make unbelievable drinks for everyone.” A new seasonal menu showcases her passion for experimentation, including this showcased recipe, which “captures the essence of spring.”

Cocktail: Sip of Spring

Ingredients:

  • 1.5oz Gray Whale Vodka
  • 1 oz. Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto
  • .5 oz. lychee puree
  • .25 oz. lemon juice
  • Top with rosé wine
  • Garnishes: Honey swipe on glass, pressed dried rose petals and orchid

The Sip of Spring cocktail.

Method: Swipe a slight swirl or curve on the wine glass with honey on a brush. Press glass into the dried rose petals. Set aside. In a shaker with ice, place all ingredients in, except for the rose wine, and shake till the tin frosts over. Take the garnished wine glass and ice it ¾ full. Strain into the wine glass and top off with a floral dry rosé. To finish, place a beautiful edible orchid to give it an extra pop of color and spring touch.

“At the end of winter, I’m always excited for the spring. Everything is blooming back from the cold, snowy winter. Spring is when my brain goes to flowers and I created this drink because of that. Something light, floral, with a twist of some rosé wine and a beginning of summer flavors coming from the lychee,” said Misia Daniels, Bar Manager, Sicily. “Drinks should always be visually appealing but also taste amazing. When you decide to craft this drink yourself, you’ll understand why it’s the perfect spring cocktail.”
