Litchfield Distillery launched its American Single Malt Whiskey across the Nutmeg State—crafted from 100% Connecticut-grown malted barley sourced from Thrall Family Malt—which will now be part of the distillery’s permanent lineup. For the first time in more than half a century, the U.S. government has officially recognized a new whiskey category: American Single Malt Whiskey. Long before the ruling, Litchfield Distillery began resting barrels over four years ago. Under the new federal definition, American Single Malt Whiskey must be made from 100% malted barley; be distilled entirely at one distillery; de-mashed, distilled and matured in the United States; be matured in white oak casks not exceeding 700 liters; be distilled to no more than 160 proof (80% ABV); and be bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) or higher. Also new for December is the 2025 Founders’ Reserve Bourbon Whiskey, the distillery’s first CT-Grown bourbon whiskey with an eight-year age statement. Packaged in a red foil-stamped holiday gift box, it’s bottled at 100 proof.
