Narrangansett Beer Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary

By August 3, 2025Rhode Island, Top News

Narragansett Beer commemorated 20 years since its brand revival with a party at Hot Club in Providence on June 19. The ’Gansett management team joined guests for a celebration featuring its brew selections on tap paired with oysters from Matunuck Oyster Bar, live music from DJ Shoener, brand trivia and merchandise giveaways. The party was among several events hosted in July to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the brand’s milestone cameo in the 1975 blockbuster “Jaws,” in which the beer can was crushed by character Capt. Quint, most famously. Narragansett Beer’s Rhode Island brewery closed in 1982 and was brought back to life by Rhode Island native and current President Mark Hellendrung, along with a group of investors, with the goal to run Narragansett Beer independently again. In the past 20 years, Narragansett Beer has become an institution for Ocean State natives. Fans donated funds that were used to build its current state-of-the-art brewery in Providence, which opened in May 2021. Narragansett Beer is known as a top five brewery in New England and is among the top 30 craft breweries in the U.S., earning the No. 1 spot for domestic premium lagers on BeerAdvocate and a place in the Brewers Association’s Top 20 American Craft Breweries of 2024.
